About

This whole new site has been quite the work in progress!  I thought about the whole idea of having our own domain name of beinstant.com since early summer, and once I realized the inexpensive cost of purchasing it, I thought, “Why not?”  I knew that I wanted to stay with WordPress, but wasn’t sure how to go about the whole self hosted thing.  After reading and reading about it, I knew I would just have to plug along…for a while.

For those of you who think, “I wish I could customize my blog more than what wordpress.com or Blogspot gives, this is the definite solution: but for sure not for the light of heart.  It put my computing knowledge to an extreme and frustrating test at times.  I had to get used to terms like CSS, PHP, and HTML…coding until my brain almost burst!  Nonetheless after many trials, it’s here: beinstant.com.

You may notice changes to the style here and there for the next few months, but overall I am pretty satisfied.  If there are any suggestions you would like to make, go ahead and tell us by commenting below.

Feel free to browse around and see what’s new!

P.S.– I thought everyone might get a kick out of the Twitter and Facebook buttons on the subscribe tab!

Version History

1.0–Site made public

1.01–Made “room” pages more efficient to read by having the post thumbnail not appear for the first post in the category, but to appear with a short excerpt for the remaining three most recent posts in that category.

1.022–Added an easily editable box on the sidebar tabs for quick updates.  Adjusted the height of the sidebar tabs for a more eye-appealing look.  Changed comment formatting to a cleaner, streamlined, and less “boxy” look.

1.03–Made page navigation easier by adding a “PageNavi” on category pages, and next and previous post links on single post pages.  Added post dates underneath post titles on the front page categories for an easier reference of how old that post is.

1.04–Cleaned and simplified “PageNavi.”  Made post authors display when viewing posts.

1.1–Resized CSS elements to allow borders, text, and images to line up more congruently.  Removed tags from post pages, removed RSS links to individual categories on the front page, and made the comments link for individual categories smaller on the front page: all to simplify and de-clutter.

1.2–Added a search bar in the middle footer widget, as well as a Contact Us page on the right side of the header banner.  Removed links to “About Dustin” and “About Andrea” until we can update these pages for sake of “freshening things up.”

1.21–Totally revamped the Kindle Reading page for easier linking to Amazon products.  Also added a banner for the Amazon Kindle.
